My clients often ask, “Rachel, what’s your favorite spice?” It’s hard to pick just one, but I’d say organic Ceylon cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon tastes lighter and sweeter than regular cinnamon. And it’s the perfect solution for a quick nutrition upgrade—just a pinch adds a ton of good! Check out all the benefits below.
Benefits of Ceylon cinnamon
Research has shown cinnamon may:
-
Help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity
-
May fight breast, lung, and prostate cancer cells
-
Reduce chronic inflammation
-
Help heart health by improving cholesterol and blood pressure
-
Decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by inhibiting tau protein aggregation (a hallmark of Alzheimer’s)
-
Reduce the risk of gastric ulcers by stunting the growth of H. pylori, the bacteria that is often implicated in ulcerations leading to stomach cancer
Ceylon cinnamon vs. cinnamon
Most grocery store cinnamon—whether labeled Cassia cinnamon, Saigon cinnamon, or just “cinnamon”—contains a potential liver-toxic compound called coumarin. Ceylon cinnamon has been shown to have up to 1,200 times less coumarin!

Where do I buy Ceylon cinnamon?
I learned the hard way that finding high-quality Ceylon Cinnamon isn’t easy. When I started my Power Spice blends, I insisted they contain premium Ceylon cinnamon and found sourcing it took longer and was more expensive than regular Ceylon Cinnamon. But I’m a total snob when it comes to spices and have high standards for my products, so it’s worth it!
You can find premium Ceylon cinnamon in many of my spice blends, which are carefully crafted to boost flavor and spice synergy. For example, my Cinnapeel Spicer blend contains Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, and orange peel. So not only are you getting the great benefits of Ceylon cinnamon, you’re getting an added upgrade because the spices within the blend work synergistically to potentially help balance blood sugars, reduce inflammation, and boost the antioxidant value of your meals.
