This tea is my signature “AM riser” power beverage–drink it first thing in the morning (or anytime, really!) to jumpstart your system. Steeping these nourishing roots and herbs in warm water helps soothe inflammation and enhance immunity. The turmeric, ginger, lemon, and mint are the base ingredients, and my secret tip is to add fennel and parsley to help debloat your belly. Plus, some preliminary studies suggest that fennel may have antiviral effects. I’ve found that starting my day with this tea really makes all the difference in how I feel! Make a batch and drink it hot or chilled throughout the day. Bonus: these ingredients also help calm your digestive tract and naturally detox your system.
Makes 6-8 cups
Vegan, Gluten-Free
- 2-inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled and sliced into rounds
- 3-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced into rounds
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 lemon, sliced into ½-inch circles
- 10 sprigs fresh mint
- ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 10 sprigs of parsley
Combine turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, lemon slices, mint, black pepper, fennel seeds, parsley and 8 cups water in a medium saucepan over low heat. Bring to simmer and let cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
Strain if desired, and pour into mugs. The tea can also be stored in mason jars in the fridge for up to 3 days.
