Super Sumac Cauliflower

Ingredients

1 medium head of cauliflower, cut into mini florets (about 6 to 8 cups)

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 ½ tablespoons Super Sumac Power Blend

Sea salt to taste

Featuring: Super Sumac

We upgraded the rich, tangy flavor of sumac by supercharging it with garlic, onion, turmeric, black pepper, and a hint of parsley. With its exceptional antioxidant power, sumac stands tall among spices, and we made sure you get the best of it in every sprinkle.

Cauliflower is a vegetable that takes on the flavor of whatever you spice it up with. My favorite addition is za’atar, the condiment king of Middle Eastern cuisine that’s tangy, nutty, and woodsy. Blends typically contain thyme, oregano, and marjoram along with sumac and toasted sesame seeds--this combo exerts some major antibacterial and antioxidant effects (people in the Middle East have used it to eliminate parasites since ancient times!). I use it to eliminate taste bud boredom!

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the cauliflower, oil, spice blend and sea salt to taste.
  3. Transfer to a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Roast in oven for 15 minutes.
  5. Stir cauliflower and roast for another 30 minutes, or until cauliflower is slightly browned on the edges.

Nutritional Highlights

  • Sumac is rich in antioxidant phytochemicals and may even help improve the action of our body’s natural antioxidant enzymes. This can help protect DNA from damage, which may help reduce cancer risk.
  • Parsley, turmeric, and sumac have been shown to potentially prevent breast cancer cells from growing and spreading.
  • Sumac and turmeric are both rich in anti-inflammatory properties — and black pepper enhances turmeric’s effects.
  • Onion and garlic are allium vegetables, which have been associated with lower cancer risk.
